Racing information plus notable races at Parx Casino and Racing
Known as Philadelphia Park Racetrack and Casino until 2010, Parx Casino and Racing is the largest casino gaming complex in Pennsylvania. The race track was opened in November 1974 under the name of Keystone Race track.
Parx is also the home of Pennsylvania's two premier thoroughbred race, the US $1 million Grade II Pennsylvania Derby and the US $500,000 Grade II Fitz Eugene Dixon Cotillion Handicap. Formerly a three day event, the Pennsylvania Derby evolved to a month long event featuring the annual Owners and Pennsylvania Day at the Races the Saturday after Labor Day, and a new US $300,000 preliminary event on Labor Day named after the 2004 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes champion, Smarty Jones.
